What is the problem to solve?
During my tenure at the Hospital for the Niño Poblano, several critical issues related to data management and operational efficiency were identified. A significant amount of information and data were found to be inadequately processed, highlighting the urgent need for efficient data and statistics management.
Summary of problems to be resolved:
- Need for efficient data and statistics management in the hospital.
- Deliberate saturation of consultation schedules by some doctors.
- Severe health consequences for patients due to long waits for appointment scheduling.
- Disorganization of medical productivity information.
- Inconsistencies in the information.
- Dirty data.
- Lack of referential integrity in the data.

Additionally, I developed multiple DAX measures to automate the necessary calculations, ensuring they are updated automatically each month.

Finally, the result is a comprehensive set of dashboards containing all the medical productivity information for the entire hospital. This allows the executives to make informed decisions regarding where to focus efforts, personnel, resources, and more. Below, I present a series of images of the IPM, as well as an interactive dashboard for you to navigate.

These are some of the dashboards that make up the entire IPM, accessible through navigation and segmentation buttons that I added throughout the system. Below, I have embedded the IPM for you to explore.
What was achieved?
The implementation of the IPM at the Hospital for the Niño Poblano resulted in numerous achievements and had a significant impact on the effectiveness of the hospital’s Statistics department. Some of the most notable achievements include:
- Optimization of medical productivity: The IPM dashboards enabled the identification and correction of inefficient practices, such as deliberate schedule saturation. This resulted in greater appointment availability and reduced wait times for patients.
- Informed decision-making: Executives could make decisions based on concrete and accurate data, facilitating the efficient allocation of resources, personnel, and efforts towards areas needing more attention.
- Transparency and accountability: The visibility of medical productivity and other key metrics allowed for greater transparency and accountability among medical and administrative staff.
- Automation of calculations: The creation of multiple DAX measures automated the necessary calculations, updating automatically each month. This saved time and reduced the margin of error in monthly reports.
- Improved data quality: The organization and cleaning of data, along with the implementation of referential integrity, significantly improved the quality of available information.
- Detailed analysis by specialty: Custom dashboards by specialty enabled detailed analysis of productivity in specific areas such as Anesthesiology, Physical Rehabilitation, Psychology, and Nutrition, among others.
- Improved patient care: With more efficient schedule management and greater appointment availability, patients could be seen more quickly, improving their experience and health outcomes.
The overall impact of the IPM on the effectiveness of the hospital’s Statistics department was remarkable. It not only facilitated better data management but also empowered medical and administrative staff with tools and insights to continuously improve the quality of medical care.
