Productivity Growth Report for the Physical Rehabilitation Department

I would like to present a brief report on the increase in productivity within the Physical Rehabilitation Department of the hospital. This report was requested to assess the impact of the new mechanisms implemented to capture the total productivity of each rehabilitator. Essentially, this report reflects the achievements realized through the adoption of new technologies and innovative data analytics within the hospital.

The Physical Rehabilitation Department is a key component of the services provided by the Hospital para el Niño Poblano. Like other medical services, its performance is measured and evaluated periodically based on the activity and production of its staff. Since the implementation of new productivity metrics in 2023, the Medical Productivity Index was introduced, designed by the Statistics Department. This index includes all activities reported by physicians, including outpatient consultations, interconsultations, hospital notes, and evaluations.

In 2023, the Physical Rehabilitation Department maintained an average of 1,075.33 productive activities per month. Of these activities, 48.7% were outpatient consultations and 51.28% were hospital notes. Below is a graph illustrating the monthly trend of consultations and evaluations performed throughout the year:

As can be seen, the department’s productivity showed a variable trend in 2023, with some months experiencing lower productivity compared to the year’s peak periods.

To improve this situation, multidisciplinary meetings were held and various measures were implemented in collaboration with the head of Physical Rehabilitation. Among the notable initiatives was the detailed recording of evaluations conducted by each rehabilitator across all hospital services. Additionally, staff rotation among different services was promoted to maximize the time spent evaluating patients and providing outpatient consultations.

The results achieved during the first half of 2024 have been promising:

  • Increase in Monthly Productivity Average: A significant increase was observed in the average monthly activities, rising from 1,075.33 in 2023 to 1,949.6 in the first six months of 2024. This represents an 81% increase compared to the previous year’s monthly average.
  • Progress Toward Annual Goals: In just six months of 2024, the Physical Rehabilitation Department is approaching surpassing the total productivity achieved in the 12 months of 2023.
  • Growing Trend: The monthly productivity shows a clear upward trend, as shown in the following graph:

Conclusion: The implementation of strategic measures and optimization in recording and managing evaluations have resulted in a notable increase in the productivity of the Physical Rehabilitation Department. If the current trend continues, the productivity increase is expected to exceed expectations and further enhance the department’s performance.
